So last night BYU played the Texas Longhorns. (You should know right away that I am an avid BYU Cougars fan, and many of these posts will likely talk about BYU. However, I will do my best to be respectful about other teams and not bash or insult any of them. Emphasis on "do my best.") Last year Texas was ranked #15 in the nation when Taysom Hill and BYU ran all over them. I believe it was 550 total yards, most of which were Taysom's, and the final score was 40-21. Well, Texas worked hard all year to get better and get stronger, hoping to get revenge this year under a new head coach. Unfortunately for them, BYU also worked hard all year to get better and stronger, and we did the same thing. The stats weren't as impressive; however, it was because our defense did so well that our offense never really had to go very far to score. This time the final score was 41-7. A rare successful drive by Texas gave them a late touchdown that saved them from their first home blowout since 1966. It still was, however, their worst home loss since 1997. MVP went, of course, to Taysom Hill, who's first TD came from a 30-yard run that involved dodging several would-be tacklers and culminated in him hurdling over the safety at about the 5-yard line and then jogging into the endzone. In an interview after the game Taysom would comment how he had realized that they had been diving at his legs all game, so when he saw the safety he "took a leap of faith." This earned his hurdle the nickname "The Leap of Faith," and a meme turning his jump into him riding Bevo, Texas's mascot, into the endzone. It was a fantastic game, which earned us a ranking in the top 25 for the first time in two years, just coming in at #25 going into this week. On Tuesday I have a big test to take. I mean, a HUGE test. I have to take the Praxis, which is a Teacher Certification Exam. It's kinda like the GRE or MCAT. Or the ACT and SAT for high schoolers. If I want to be a teacher I have to pass the Praxis. And since I'm going into Secondary Education, I have to pass it in each of my main disciplines, which are Math and Spanish. So Tuesday I'm taking the Math one and at the end of October I have the Spanish one. Out of the two, I feel more confident about the Spanish one. I love Math, I've always enjoyed it. But I'm really nervous to take the Praxis. But I've been studying hard for it, using a lot of different resources, and I'm starting to feel more confident for it. I guess I'm about as ready as I'll ever be. Tomorrow I got work off and I'll do some last little bit of studying and then relax as much as I can to get ready for it. Prayers for help would definitely be appreciated. :)
And then on Friday the day will finally arrive. What day? The day that I go back to Rexburg!! I've been home in Grace for the summer break, which started at the end of July. I love it here in Grace; it's always great to come back to visit and I love spending time with my family. But after a month and a half, I'm definitely ready to be back in the Burg. I miss it there and can't wait to be back.
I am a little anxious about this semester, though. It's going to be a crazy one. I have 6 classes for 14 credits. I also will be studying to take the Spanish Praxis in October, as well as doing some things to prepare for student teaching next fall. And on top of all that, I suppose I need to take some time off for dating. (Dating could, and might, be a whole other post all on its own) So it will be a super busy semester. But, if I can survive and make it through this one, it will be downhill from there. In the Winter I won't have as many classes or as much to do. And then I'll take two last classes in the Spring semester. Then I'll be done at BYU-Idaho!! Then on to student teaching and then-hopefully-an actual teaching job! Whew!!
Well, I guess that's about it for this post. I'm tired of typing, having already sent a long email to my sister who is on the mission. And you're probably already tired of reading my ramblings, if you've even made it this far. I don't really know how often I'll post here, or how long the posts will be. As I said above, this is my first blog. So we'll just wing it! We'll see how it goes as it gets along.

For some explanation on the one below, since the words are somewhat hard to read: The one bull says "Psst...Taysom Hill!" The other bull, who is supposed to be Bevo, Texas's mascot, yells "Stampede!" It then says "Poor Bevo...Just hasn't been the same since last September." That was, actually, referring to last September. But it could also refer to last night as well. :)
