Well, I'm finally back up in Rexburg. I had a great break, which included a trip to Washington to see family (and a Mariners game), seeing my younger brother off at the MTC (Missionary Training Center, from which he will go to his mission), and a somewhat last minute trip to a BYU football game. Busy, but fun, break. But now I'm ready to be back in the Burg, and back in school.
Having said that, it is going to be a crazy busy semester. 6 classes, preparing for the Spanish Praxis (Teacher Certification Exam) and getting ready for student teaching next year. Oh, and dating if there's time. :) I'll be plenty busy, and it will be pretty tough. But I like a good challenge, and hope to hit it head on.
I wanted to type up a post tonight, but don't have much to say aside from being back in school. Maybe I'll talk a little more about why I started this blog. It was more for me than anything else. I often find myself with something I'm dying to say, whether it's to vent(which I try and do less and less), tell a cool story, or maybe share a thought I had. I just as often, however, find myself with no one to share said vent, story or thought with. Sometimes it's not something that I want to post as a Facebook status, or it might be really long and so wouldn't really fit as a Facebook status. Writing in a journal is good, and something I need to work on, but the only person that's sharing with is my future self. And, I guess, posterity. Then one day, after a long day of work, I was in one of the most thought inspiring places ever. The shower. Seriously, it's a great place to think, and I've had many an epiphany while singing in the shower. This day, while singing "Bring Him Home" from Les Miserables (Hugh Jackman does it better), I had a thought. "What if I make a blog?" I thought. Then I can talk about random thoughts and experiences (note the name of the blog: Random Ramblings...) and people can read it if they want, and I'll feel a little better knowing that I have someone to share with. And thus was born this blog. It shows me how many people have read my posts, but I don't know who. But I do know that someone has. For example, my first post on Sunday has 17 views. Who knows how many this one will get? So anyway, that's mainly why I started this blog. So far I like it, so we'll see how long I keep doing it.
Here's another thought. (Funny story first, though. Above, as I recounted how I was singing "Bring Him Home" in the shower, I decided to look it up and listen to it. A few times. :) So now I'm listening to it for the third time, and I had this thought. Maybe it's the song that's so inspiring, and not the shower. (Now, several minutes after that, I'm going through and listening to all my favorite Les Mis songs.)) Anywho, maybe we can try something. All you who read this post, hopefully you liked it, even though it wasn't much-I like the first one better-and hopefully you continue to read my blog. If you'd like me to talk about anything, maybe post it in the comments, and I can try and include it in my next post. I can't promise I will, or guarantee I'll get to all your suggestions (wishfully thinking there may be several lol) but maybe I will. Maybe that will give me more to talk about next time, and even more, something interesting to you to talk about. Let's try it!!
Random Ramblings of a Single College Guy
If I ever have a cool experience, a funny story to share, or just need to ramble and have no one to ramble to, then it will be on here! Not sure how often I'll be posting, but I imagine at least once a week, if not more.

BYU football, Praxis, back to school, and whatnot
Well, here goes the first post! This will definitely be an adventure for me as much as my readers. The only other blog I've ever done was on my mission, and I didn't do anything on that one. My parents posted my emails home to a blog so others could follow my mission. So this really is my first ever blog. I'm excited for it, and hopefully it's enjoyable for all who read it.
So last night BYU played the Texas Longhorns. (You should know right away that I am an avid BYU Cougars fan, and many of these posts will likely talk about BYU. However, I will do my best to be respectful about other teams and not bash or insult any of them. Emphasis on "do my best.") Last year Texas was ranked #15 in the nation when Taysom Hill and BYU ran all over them. I believe it was 550 total yards, most of which were Taysom's, and the final score was 40-21. Well, Texas worked hard all year to get better and get stronger, hoping to get revenge this year under a new head coach. Unfortunately for them, BYU also worked hard all year to get better and stronger, and we did the same thing. The stats weren't as impressive; however, it was because our defense did so well that our offense never really had to go very far to score. This time the final score was 41-7. A rare successful drive by Texas gave them a late touchdown that saved them from their first home blowout since 1966. It still was, however, their worst home loss since 1997. MVP went, of course, to Taysom Hill, who's first TD came from a 30-yard run that involved dodging several would-be tacklers and culminated in him hurdling over the safety at about the 5-yard line and then jogging into the endzone. In an interview after the game Taysom would comment how he had realized that they had been diving at his legs all game, so when he saw the safety he "took a leap of faith." This earned his hurdle the nickname "The Leap of Faith," and a meme turning his jump into him riding Bevo, Texas's mascot, into the endzone. It was a fantastic game, which earned us a ranking in the top 25 for the first time in two years, just coming in at #25 going into this week. It's definitely a great time to be a Cougar fan!! #Hill4Heisman #BYUFootball #GoCougars!
On Tuesday I have a big test to take. I mean, a HUGE test. I have to take the Praxis, which is a Teacher Certification Exam. It's kinda like the GRE or MCAT. Or the ACT and SAT for high schoolers. If I want to be a teacher I have to pass the Praxis. And since I'm going into Secondary Education, I have to pass it in each of my main disciplines, which are Math and Spanish. So Tuesday I'm taking the Math one and at the end of October I have the Spanish one. Out of the two, I feel more confident about the Spanish one. I love Math, I've always enjoyed it. But I'm really nervous to take the Praxis. But I've been studying hard for it, using a lot of different resources, and I'm starting to feel more confident for it. I guess I'm about as ready as I'll ever be. Tomorrow I got work off and I'll do some last little bit of studying and then relax as much as I can to get ready for it. Prayers for help would definitely be appreciated. :)
And then on Friday the day will finally arrive. What day? The day that I go back to Rexburg!! I've been home in Grace for the summer break, which started at the end of July. I love it here in Grace; it's always great to come back to visit and I love spending time with my family. But after a month and a half, I'm definitely ready to be back in the Burg. I miss it there and can't wait to be back.
I am a little anxious about this semester, though. It's going to be a crazy one. I have 6 classes for 14 credits. I also will be studying to take the Spanish Praxis in October, as well as doing some things to prepare for student teaching next fall. And on top of all that, I suppose I need to take some time off for dating. (Dating could, and might, be a whole other post all on its own) So it will be a super busy semester. But, if I can survive and make it through this one, it will be downhill from there. In the Winter I won't have as many classes or as much to do. And then I'll take two last classes in the Spring semester. Then I'll be done at BYU-Idaho!! Then on to student teaching and then-hopefully-an actual teaching job! Whew!!
Well, I guess that's about it for this post. I'm tired of typing, having already sent a long email to my sister who is on the mission. And you're probably already tired of reading my ramblings, if you've even made it this far. I don't really know how often I'll post here, or how long the posts will be. As I said above, this is my first blog. So we'll just wing it! We'll see how it goes as it gets along.
Have a great night and a wonderful week!!

For some explanation on the one below, since the words are somewhat hard to read: The one bull says "Psst...Taysom Hill!" The other bull, who is supposed to be Bevo, Texas's mascot, yells "Stampede!" It then says "Poor Bevo...Just hasn't been the same since last September." That was, actually, referring to last September. But it could also refer to last night as well. :)
